No such thing as a bad dive!

All I want to do is dive! I just got back from a great weekend at the Channel Islands off of Santa Barbara, California. It was a great 2 days of diving, good vis, but no camera! I just sold my housing and DSLR so I can upgrade to the “latest and greatest”, now I’m between systems. I must say, though, diving without the camera was somewhat refreshing. It allowed me to see more and not feel as though I needed to accomplish something (hope that doesn’t rub off at work…). I highly recommend that you photo types try it once in a while. I will dive “camera free” once in a while…but not too often.
So, where was your most recent dive? How was it? Where do you want to dive next?

Unfortunately my last dive was too long ago!
We dived off the Omani capital of Muscat in December ’05. The dive was memorable for a sighting of a frog fish – report and pics can be seen here.
I used to be a pro Wedding and Portrait photographer, and although I’ve been diving since 1992, I hadn’t taken underwater pics until recently.
I only have a Canon Ixus 400 with an underwater housing, but it’s great fun and has put another interesting edge into my dives. I tend to go slower now, and search out more small stuff.
My last dives were in May in Cozumel. *sigh* it seems so long ago. Got my Nitrox certification there, and got the first chance to try the underwater housing for my sony Digital. Not bad, for the first time out, but I think I’ll be taking the PADI digital underwater photography course. I did find a macro (action?) for photoshop that helps to compensate for the over power blues, that helped the pictures alot. You can see them

there’s hope for some diving in September, my wife and I are trying to decide between the Caribbean and Scotland…. it’s gone round and round a few times. (I’m a warm water wussie so diving the North Atlantic is out of the question
)
Johnnycastaway,
Great pics from Cozumel. So when will you be diving again? Let us know what you think of the PADI Digital Underwater Photo course. I think you will find your pictures really pop when you use some of the techniques taught in that class, especially the white balance info. Good luck.

johnnycastaway,
Oops! just saw that you were planning a dive in September. Scotland sounds quite interesting! Never been there. If you go, you will need to share the details and your pics. BTW, for more info on that photo course go to http://www.padi.com/padi/en/kd/divingeducation.aspx. Good luck!

Update, We’ve just booked to go to Santa Clara, Cuba in September, so there will be some diving pics when we come back from there.
Johnnycastaway,
Cuba, eh!!! I hear the diving is great there. Look forward to hearing all about it and seeing your pics. Keep us posted.

i just went to a scuba camp for 3 weeks and it was awesome i kept forgetting to bring my camera on the dives anyway tomorrow i go to grand cayman for a week
Anonymous,
Boy when I went to camp (won’t tell you how long ago that was!) all they had was flashlight tag and silly campfires. Scuba Camp sounds like fun! Enjoy Grand Cayman. Truly great diving there…you are in for a real treat!

My last dive was a month ago in Sardinia with Ocean Blue Diving club. The morning dive was very relaxing and so different from what I experienced in French Polynesia… The afternoon dive was great: wreck dive 58m down. Gosh I was cold! But seeing the Ilonzo up close and personal was incredible… made me sad… but also gave me hope. Mixed emotions in the middle of the sea.
Have you experienced French Polynesia yet?
Erv,
The wreck diving in Sardinia sounds exciting. Do you have any pictures? No, I have not done any diving in French Polynesia…..yet!!! Someday….

IF YA’LL GET BORED YOU CAN ALWAYS COME TO THE THIRD COAST AND DIVE THE OIL RIGS/PLATFORMS THAT ARE WITHIN CAYAKING DISTANCE FROM THE BEACH. WE HAVE ALL KINDS OF WILDLIFE, TURTLES, SHARKS AND JEW FISH AS BIG AS A SMALL CAR. THE VIS IS ALMOST ALWAYS GOOD AND THE WATER LAST WEEKEND WAS 82. NO NEED FOR WETSUITS HERE. TIME TO GAS UP THE BOAT FOR ANOTHER DIVE.
Unfortunately, I did not take pix of my dives in Sardinia… I posted a few pix of my diving in French Polynesia on: ervelyne.multiply.com
If you ever have a chance to go dive there, DO IT! Fantastic clear water… abondant sea life… HEAVEN.
My last dives were in December at Sipadan. My first for over a year, which is ridiculous as I work for a dive shop! I blame computers. Next dive? Soon I hope and I don’t care where! There is no bad dive!
